At Hannover Messe from April 17 to 21, 2023, many exhibitors will take advantage of the opportunities offered by the new 5G campus network at the exhibition center to demonstrate state-of-the-art solutions for IIoT and Industrie 4.0. Especially in Hall 14 in the “Industrial Wireless Arena + 5G Networks & Applications”. Here, the two associations VDMA, ZVEI together with Deutsche Messe present an exhibition area and an extensive lecture and forum program.

Deutsche Messe is one of the pioneers in networking its exhibition center with modern network technology. On the 1.5 million-square-meter site, companies are also expected to test and develop applications not only during trade fair hours. At the heart of this development is the company’s own 5G campus network. It can be used to develop, test and demonstrate 5G services and applications under real conditions.

For example, the Technology Academy provides companies from the smart production sector with an academy building for testing technical components in existing test facilities, setting up their own test facilities and integrating them into existing plant components. It is directly integrated into the 5G campus network. Especially at the Hannover Messe, the technology and its application areas are in the center of interest. The meeting point for all experts and interested visitors is in Hall 14 in the “Industrial Wireless Arena + 5G Networks & Applications”.

Use cases show the way

The VDMA’s Wireless Communications for Machines working group and the ZVEI’s 5G-ACIA will show the current status of the development of 5G technology and numerous concrete use cases via presentations by their members and partners. As a partner, Deutsche Messe is bringing its 5G Smart Venue as a campus network into the project. Through the networks of 5G-ACIA and AG WCM, different people, companies, research and knowledge stands will come together in one place and present their experiences to date and visions for the future.

“Wireless communication systems are among the most important building blocks on the road to digital transformation of industry in the coming years. Much of the success lies in strengthening a cross-industry dialogue, which ensures that the specifics and needs of the industry are taken into account in all respects. The ‘Industrial Wireless Arena + 5G Networks & Applications’ brings together all stakeholders of this young community like no other event and offers interested parties a unique opportunity to be part of this innovative force.”

Fundamentals are here

“The technological foundations – developed by the 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA) – are in place and can be brought to application worldwide. For the market ramp-up that is now imminent, it is important to demonstrate the interplay of industrial 5G and Industrie 4.0 to the relevant target groups in a vivid way – Hannover Messe offers the perfect stage for this,” explains Gunther Koschnick, Division Manager Industry at ZVEI.

Marcus Eibach, Head of Smart Venue and 5G & Technology Innovations at Deutsche Messe, is pleased about the partnership and the great interest from the industry: “The synergies created by the merger of the three partners in wireless network technologies are of the highest quality at Hannover Messe. The entire industry meets there as a potential customer sector for wireless technologies. All the key partners, companies and associations are centrally located in one place for a week and can experience the all-important knowledge transfer and networking in a direct use case environment.”

From technology to culture

For several years now, visitors to Hannover Messe have been learning how Industry 4.0 can bring benefits in practice. The conversations mostly revolve around networked machines, sensor technology, data and information, new business models, but also a new mindset in the industry: companies need to be present on platforms or even develop and operate their own platforms. Automation companies also need to collaborate with their customers, using open source solutions and developing products together. The challenge here is for young companies to incorporate new industries such as gaming, learn from each other, collaborate in new constellations, and make money with different business cases. Many observers therefore emphasize that Industry 4.0 is increasingly becoming not just a technical topic, but more and more a cultural and educational one. How much this aspect also applies to the backbone of Industrie 4.0 – the new 5G mobile communications standard – will be demonstrated at this year’s Hannover Messe with its special exhibition area “Industrial Wireless Arena + 5G Networks & Applications”. On Hannover Messe website you can find the program of Industrial Wireless & 5G Conference Stage.

You will find the “Industrial Wireless Arena + 5G Networks & Applications” in Hall 14/H06.
