Healthcare could become one of the big winners in the use of 5G technology. Cloud-based analyses, digitally supported anamnesis or virtually enriched training of doctors and nurses–the first approaches are there and are being tested. Now also in a test environment in Moscow, Russia.

The first industrial 5G test site for testing new healthcare technologies in Russia is to be built in Moscow. An agreement to this effect was signed by the Moscow Center for Innovative Technologies in Healthcare, Botkin City Clinical Hospital, the Moscow Department of Information Technologies (DIT) and Rostelecom at the Fourth Forum for Social Innovation in the Regions.

Applied research, testing of prototypes and pilot solutions, and digital services will be carried out at the 5G test center. The main consideration is to test VR simulators for training doctors, AR solutions to support doctors during operations, remote monitoring of patients’ condition in real time, etc. Based on the results of the experiment, scenarios for the use of 5G networks in healthcare will be determined. This is reported by the Internet platforms ICT-Moscow.

Focus Healthcare

According to the report, the search, selection and testing of medical services will be carried out by the Moscow Center for Innovative Technologies in Healthcare. Rostelecom will provide the 5G infrastructure, while Botkin Hospital will install the clinical infrastructure for research. The work will be coordinated by the DIT.

The establishment of industrial focus areas is envisaged in the roadmap for the development of 5G networks adopted by the Government of the Russian Federation in November. In June, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and the president of Rostelecom signed an agreement on the joint development of 5G communications networks in the capital and the establishment of an industrial test site in Moscow.
