By integrating Bluetooth-based sensor technology into a 5G campus network, high-resolution data images with high information content of machines, plants and buildings can be obtained.

Sensor applications with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) in industrial environments offer many advantages. Somewhat of a hindrance, however, is Bluetooth’s relatively short radio range. According to SSV Software Systems, a development service provider for microprocessor applications in logistics and automation, this challenge has now been solved with the help of local 5G mobile networks. This enables Secure Sensor Beacon (SSB) applications with a few thousand BLE data points and large spatial coverage.

SSB was developed with the aim of creating high-resolution data images of machines, plants and buildings, from which high-quality information can be extracted using artificial intelligence. In this respect, intelligent, enterprise-wide monitoring applications are an area of application for which SSB technology is ideally suited in conjunction with a 5G campus network. End-to-end security is used to ensure the authenticity and integrity of each individual data point.

Hannover Messe as 5G platform

At Hannover Messe, SSV is presenting the interaction of the Bluetooth low-energy-based SSB protocol and 5G technology to the public for the first time. In the process, sensor data from an evaluation assembly for smart factory sensors is sent via Bluetooth to a 5G industrial gateway as SSB Agent, and from there transmitted via a campus network to the SSB Collector. There, the data is available to other systems via a standardized application programming interface (API). SSV will be at Hannover Messe 2022 in Hall 5, Booth D16.

After the Hannover Messe on June 30, SSV will host a free webinar. This will cover the technical features of the Secure Sensor Beacon protocol, including data integration with backbone networks, such as 5G. In addition, deployment and security aspects of larger IoT sensor applications with the necessary tools will be presented in a generally understandable way and explained by means of a demo.

Further content on SSB

SSB (Secure Sensor Beacon) is a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)-based wireless solution for adding wireless sensors to machines, equipment and buildings. When SSB is integrated into a 5G campus network, enterprise-wide monitoring solutions with many thousands of BLE data points can be realized, e.g. to generate value-added real-time condition monitoring for advanced command and control variables in process or plant control systems. End-to-end security is used to ensure the authenticity and integrity of each individual data point. Here you can find a technical description of the SSB protocol on the Internet.

Background
SSV Software Systems GmbH

SSV Software Systems GmbH was founded in Hanover in 1981 as a development service provider for microprocessor applications in logistics and automation. Since the beginning of the 1990s, the company has been developing and producing its own hardware modules and systems for industrial use. The application focus is on industrial M2M and IoT communication. Recent developments include complete solution modules for real-time data analysis via machine learning, complete wireless sensor network applications for predictive maintenance and condition-based monitoring, a soft sensor engineering process, and remote maintenance gateways with various functions and communication interfaces.
