The first wireless router with TAICS IoT Cybersecurity Level 2 security certification (Picture: Atop)

Securing production networks is a fundamental challenge for industrial companies. This is especially true for wireless networks, such as 5G campus networks. At the automation trade fair SPS in Nuremberg, Atop presents its secure 5G router CWR 5805 – the first ever with the IoT cybersecurity certification TAICS Level 2.

Atop’s CWR 5805 Cellular Wireless Router can serve as a cellular, cable and wireless router. In mobile communications, it covers both 4G (LTE/LTE-A) and 5G NR, both in standalone and non-standalone (SA/NSA) mode. According to the manufacturer, the device can be used worldwide, but there are separate variants for the EU and USA, which differ in the LTE bands. For 5G campus networks in Germany, the band n78 (3300-3800 MHz) is relevant, but the Atop router also supports the frequency ranges of public radio networks. In the case of 5G bands, the localized variants do not differ: n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n12, n20, n28, n41, n66, n71, n77, n78, n79. Two SIM slots enable redundant mobile radio operation.

Other communication options include Wi-Fi 802.11ac Wi-Fi, with MU-MIMO and mesh support, as well as five Ethernet ports 1000 Base-TX RJ-45, of which 1x WAN and 4x LAN. A quad-core A7 ARM CPU in industrial quality provides sufficient computing power. The router is suitable for harsh industrial environments, ambient temperatures of -22°F to +158°F are permitted during operation. The housing is specified according to protection class IP30.

Focus on IoT security

In WLAN, the support of security standards extends up to WPA3-PSK (SAE), for VPNs IPSEC, OPEN-VPN, LT2P and PPTP are on board. The built-in firewall supports Access Control List (ACL), Port Forwarding, and Attack Prevention.

The router is already equipped with the ISASecure Security Development Lifecycle Assurance (SDLA) certification according to the international standard IEC 62443-4-1. In the near future, it will even reach IEC 62443-4-2.

According to Atop, the 5G router is also the first wireless router to be certified by the Taiwan Association of Information and Communication Standards (TAICS) with the TAICS IoT Cybersecurity Level 2 security certificate. Level 1 is sufficient for consumer products, Level 2 defines much higher safety standards for professional and industrial use. Level 3 – the maximum security level – has not yet been assigned to any wireless router by TAICS.

Router with 5-year warranty

Other specifications include power redundancy with PoE PD and DC, shock, drop and vibration resistance according to IEC 60068-2-27, -32 and -64, antenna isolation and industrial EMC minimum level 3. The manufacturer grants a five-year warranty on the CWR 5805.

The CWR 5805 Cellular Wireless Router can be seen at SPS in Nuremberg (8-10 November 2022) at Atop’s booth in Hall 5, Booth 210.
