German industry router manufacturer, comtime, has released its new CT router NG 5G. The router comes with a transmission rate of up to 2 GBit and supports both 5G standalone (SA) and 5G non-standalone (NSA). Above all, the manufacturer emphasizes the functions for secure data transmission.

Comtime from Norderstedt near Hamburg, Germany, is a long-standing developer and manufacturer of LTE routers for the industry. They recently announced the release of the new CT-Router NG 5G. The company strived towards developing a high-performance router for industrial Ethernet networks. One of its prime standalone features is: Transmitting sensitive data, securely, via mobile phone networks.

The CT router NG 5G is said to support both 5G standalone (SA) and 5G non-standalone (NSA). According to an online technology news platform, not all mobile network operators (MNOs) have yet switched to 5G SA. 5G NSA is based on LTE and adds some, but not all 5G functions to the network, while 5G SA supports all basic functions of the new communication standard.

Secure data transfer

The CT router NG 5G also comes with an integrated firewall and VPN support to protect the user’s application from unauthorized access. Five IPSec VPN channels are already installed at the factory, allowing users to expand to up to 32 VPN channels. This allows the network to grow with the requirements without the need for additional hardware. The Stateful Inspection Firewall provides both intrusion prevention and denial of service protection to protect the data on the network.

Especially when it comes to cybersecurity, the reliability of the appliances also plays a major role. “Made in Germany” indicates that secret backdoors are not to be expected. The entire comtime product portfolio is developed, manufactured, and tested in Germany according to the highest security, data protection, and quality standards.

Furthermore, remote stations are quickly and simply integrated into an IP network via a 5G connection. If 5G is not available, the system automatically switches to LTE. Irrespective of where the user’s system or control is located – the process data is open to the router owner at any location via a secure VPN connection.

The router contains two configurable switching inputs that enable SMS or e-mail to be sent independently, even to multiple recipients. Two integrated switching outputs can be actuated via a password-protected SMS message. This allows the system status to be monitored remotely and functions to be switched. Logging into the mobile network takes place automatically when the PIN is saved.
