For media companies such as broadcasters, production companies and event organizers, their own 5G campus networks are particularly suitable for more flexible production and for high-quality broadcast transmissions, namely whenever 100% availability, guaranteed bandwidths and short latency times are important.

Whether you are a medium-sized company or a broadcaster, Media Broadcast offers everything you need to successfully operate your own 5G campus network: from applying for frequencies to network planning, construction, operation, and monitoring.

Within the scope of a Proof of Concept (PoC) at a game of the soccer Mittelrheinliga Nordrhein-Westfalen in the Sportpark Nord in Bonn, a professional TV production with four TV cameras was realized completely wirelessly over a private 5G network for the first time. The successful implementation of the project confirmed findings already gained in previous use cases that such a production is already commercially viable with existing technology, both in terms of technical performance and reliability.

“We are pleased to have been part of this project, which once again demonstrated how 5G- applications are a gamechanger for live TV production,” said Marcus Schioler, vice president of marketing at Haivision. “Haivision’s high-quality, ultra-low latency 5G-enabled transmission systems, combined with our Safe Stream Transport protocol, enable broadcasters to reduce the cost and complexity of multi-camera productions while bringing viewers even closer to the action.”

After evaluating the results, representatives of the project partners were very satisfied with the implementation of the PoC. In the coming months, further joint activities are planned with the aim of further standardizing the planning and implementation of media productions in a 5G campus network and demonstrating that professional moving image productions can also be realized with a lower budget without having to accept any compromises in quality.

As Project Manager 5G Campus Networks at Media Broadcast, Daniel Wolbers also described the learning curves in an interview in our series “5 Questions about 5G”, how conclusions can also be drawn for industrial 5G campus networks based on this moving image production of the sports event. to the video “5 Tips from Daniel Wolbers: 5G fulfills all promises”.
