Under the name “Private 5G Platform”, technology service provider NTT Data is offering core functions for private LTE and 5G networks as Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) for the first time. Using third-party applications and its own services, companies are to receive a comprehensive solution for business-critical applications.

NTT Data’s Private 5G Platform provides a complete end-to-end service stack needed to operate a campus network based on LTE or 5G. It will be integrated with the technology group’s offerings, which include a global network and a comprehensive suite of application development and management capabilities. For example, users could easily manage security, application development and core process integration.

Cloud, Edge and On Premise

According to the technology company, the platform (website), which is based on a cloud-native architecture, uses design-thinking principles to integrate security and “privacy by design.” It is designed as an open platform so that companies can flexibly secure, scale and segment their network by integrating solutions from network and software partners. Accordingly, the platform is also suitable for business-critical applications in the private LTE or 5G network.

It can be installed in the cloud, at the edge or on premise. Target audiences include diverse industries such as automotive, manufacturing, healthcare, transportation and retail. Users can count on deep integration of data, connectivity, security and communications, enabling both performance and cost benefits, resulting in a rapid return on investment (RoI).

For AI, IoT and automation

The NTT expert points out that the Private 5G Platform meets many user demands right out of the gate, and also includes a clear roadmap for further development of innovative 5G solutions. NTT can also meet other industry-specific requirements with its deep vertical expertise, he added.

Kai Grunwitz, CEO of NTT Ltd. in Germany, points to the favorable conditions for private 5G networks in Europe and especially in Germany. Here, he says, there are many early adopters to whom the Private 5G Platform is intended to provide a suitable solution. “Big Data and mobility are becoming increasingly important for successful business operations. This is the reason why 5G is the best choice for critical processes. 5G combines data protection, security, performance and stability with an extended feature set and licenses for a dedicated frequency range. With extremely high speeds and the ability to process more data in real time, 5G will enable advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI), automation and IoT.”
