Akosim provides sufficient cellular coverage. Lots of connectivity under this software! (Image: Gabi Schoenemann/pixelio.de)

No longer a pipe dream is a nationwide rollout of LTE and 5G, which provides a functional basis for the operators’ planning. Akosim makes mobile network planning and optimization in Germany seamless through holistic planning across all three (in future four) major networks – absolutely platform-neutral and system-open.

The expectation for 5G networks, especially in campus projects, is high. With simulation, planning, optimization and monitoring software, the performance of 5G networks can be significantly increased. Plus the effect that costs can be kept within budget and negative side effects like high radiation exposure, interferences and handover problems with 2G,3G,4G can be minimized.

An important field of application for 5G is autonomous vehicles, for which data on routing, road conditions and the road environment must be recorded and transmitted as continuously as possible in the German road network. For the simulation environment of the autonomous vehicles, this data is continuously recorded and transmitted via the network in order to detect dangerous driving situations in good time.

An ideal base for optimal coverage of the networks…

… provides mobile network planning and optimization in Germany through holistic planning across all three (in future four) major networks. Akosim creates software products to ensure seamless, optimized telecommunications networks. The products cover the areas of planning mobile networks (GSM, GPRS, UMTS, LTE, 5G), as well as planning and optimization of WLAN and microwave links/networks. The basic functions contained in this software include interactive base station location planning, calculation of all parameters relevant to planning, visualization of the network and calculation results, storage of raster and image data in databases, and management of geographic data in a wide variety of file formats in a GIS (Geographic Information System software library).

The company’s core competence is the creation of network planning, network simulation, network optimization and network management software that is easily adaptable to changes in the market and customers’ wishes and infrastructure. The modularization and extensibility of the software functions is crucial, enabling Akosim to realize a wide variety of planning and optimization tasks of a mobile network operator in a broadband manner. The tool has already proven itself over many years in large networks such as e-plus, then O2/Telefonica Deutschland, Connect Austria, later Hutchison 3G-Austria).

Absolutely interesting for…

… mobile network providers, planning offices, outsourcing partners of mobile companies, such as Alcatel, ATOS, Tata, Amdocs, Comarch and for mobile infrastructure manufacturers such as Cisco, Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, the software offers enormous development potential. Especially since the market growth for platform-neutral, server-centric technical software in the mobile communications sector will be above average in the next five years, as the competitive situation between network operators and the ongoing introduction of new network technologies (LTE, 5G) requires a transition from client-side software tools to scalable, server-centric or cloud-based solutions.

For Akosim, excellent market opportunities arise because the classic, closed (Windows-based) systems for network planning cannot keep up with the speed of progress towards cloud computing and SaaS solutions. Business concepts as well as market opportunities arise for the chosen approach of a cloud-enabled “software building block”, as the situation in DACH, Europe and USA offers open spaces for action. So far, there is no system that follows a platform-neutral and system-open strategy. Even with more than a hundred users, the software for radio network planning offers operation in the cloud on one or more servers – with enormous cost savings compared to classic solutions.

“It is crucial to be able to meet the individual requirements of users from all perspectives with the software. Capability, functionality and performance are knitted in such a way that with a toolbox architecture, broadband connection to the respective company databases can be achieved within a very short time.”
